Just by looking through Shane’s Facebook pages, you will see for yourself how an improved smile can change a person’s life. This handsome High School senior is captain of his football team, popular with his peers and academically successful yet in each photo he is not smiling, or at least not broadly enough to reveal his teeth. Shane’s parents said they never realized he was hiding his teeth and was self-conscious of them for all those years. They only realized it when all of a sudden their son began smiling, and it is so evident in his Facebook photo gallery…. Suddenly there appears a new person, smiling for the camera!

Shane came to my office the summer before he was leaving for college. Shane’s uncle was a patient of mine who worked in the banking industry close by in the Financial District, and he recommended me to the family because he knew I specialized in appearance enhancement dentistry. Shane and his mother met with me for a consultation, and it was clear to me that Shane’s teeth were detracting from his appearance. Shane had what is known as “tooth-arch discrepancy”, a condition where his teeth are all present and healthy, but the size of his teeth are smaller than the size of his jaw, which results in large spaces between his teeth. Our two options were orthodontics and implant tooth replacements, or minimal preparation veneers. After thorough discussion of both options, we were convinced that veneers would be the best solution for Shane. I happened to have time in my schedule that day, and we began right away. Minor alterations or “finish lines” were created on his six front teeth, impressions and photos were taken, and Shane left the office without temporaries. Less than two weeks later, Shane returned for the delivery of his new smile. Because he is involved in sports we also had an athletic guard and a night guard made to protect his new smile.
