Real Stories: Acid Reflux
Peter L.
Crowns to repair damage from Acid Reflux Disease
Peter knew his teeth were thinning over time, and wanted to protect his teeth and make them healthy again. Peter’s before photos show the classic signs of severe erosion due to acid. Acid Reflux is a common medical condition that often goes undiagnosed. Left untreated, acid reflux can erode away the enamel of the teeth to the point where crowns are needed to restore the teeth. Unfortunately, physicians are not as concerned or aware of the dental destruction that can occur when teeth are repeatedly exposed to stomach acid, and often will only treat patients with physical symptoms like heart burn and coughing. I see cases like this in my practice often, and passionately want to educate my patients and their physicians so that early intervention can be utilized to save teeth and avoid unnecessary treatment. Working closely with Peter’s physician, Peter’s teeth and condition have been treated. Thanks for sharing your story Peter, and keep smiling!
